Stanley Samuel has 16+ years of experience in Project Management, Program Management, Business Analysis, Strategy, Management Consulting and Business Development. Stanley graduated from one of the premier engineering institutes in India (Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee) with a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering, and received his MBA from Wichita State University, Kansas.

He is currently working as a Director, Operations Program Management with Truven Health Analytics in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where is actively working on Healthcare related projects with the State and Federal government. After receiving his PMP Certification in 1999, he has been an active member of the Project Management Institute (PMI). Stanley has held various leadership positions in the local PMI Chapters and has been the Past President of the PMI’s Michigan Capital Area Chapter.

I heard on the news that the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality would shut down the ferry, Badger, between Ludington and Manitowoc, Wisconsin.  I figured that one more ride might have to be this summer, or never again.

I laid out some scope requirements.

• Ride the Lake Express ferry from Milwaukee to Muskegon the other way.
• Go over and back in a day.

Introduction
Now it is here, the ISO standard „Guidance on project management“ in its final version. I took a closer look and put together the parts which seemed most relevant to me.

As with any standard also the ISO 21500 looks for creating a common basis and understanding for project work. This should enable us to work together more effectively – not just in a project team but also between sponsors and project managers. In addition the standard should enable organizations to develop their own project management standards.

The standard may be bought at www.iso.org or at a local (online) store, costing around EUR 116,-.

The standard contains a not too extensive list of terms and definitions, which should help one understand the document easily. You find a larger list and definition of terms in the PMI lexicon at www.pmi.org / PMBOK-Guide & Standards.
